Swimmers of
America

The Author is a new member of the CVST
Bronze Practice Group and attends St. Lawrence Catholic
School.
It was a sunny day in Florida as Jim Kelly, the head of the
Aquatics Center at Emerald Greens, singed up his team for the Boys
and Girls Club National Championships. He was very excited, and so
was his team, CVST. Their rival team, the Ocala Sharks, was going
to be there. CVST would get the trophy this time.
Anne Marie woke up the next morning. She threw her stuff into a
bag. She was ready to go. 20 minutes later, the Yatsula family was
headed for St.Petersburg. "OK, 12 25s. The first 6 are freestyle,
the second 6 are choice." said Meredith to her swimmers. "First
group, ready, go." In the lane next to Meredith was Randy, telling
his swimmers to do 12 50s, the same way. 2 lanes down, Eric Hill,
the coach of the Ocala Sharks, was watching Randy and Meredith
closely. What made their swimmers so good?
The announcer's voice came on the loudspeaker and said "Coaches,
please get your swimmers out of the water, the meet is starting in
5 minutes." 5 minutes later, Event 1 was in the water. CVST and the
Ocala Sharks stayed tied in points for the rest of the weekend. On
Sunday, there was the tie breaker relay.
The teams decided that the tie breaker relay would be a Boys
10&Under 100 Free relay. From CVST, (in that order) were Owen
Mackenzie, Chance Tirhimer, Logan Tirhimer, and Christian Yatsula.
From the Sharks were Joseph Layer, John Frindle, Noah Greene, and
Michael Ralis. "Take your mark......Go!" The swimmers flew into the
water! They were covered in white water till the reached the wall,
when the next two swimmers flew in. By the next to the teams were
neck and neck. The final lap, CVST pulled ahead and pushed the
touchpad! CVST had won! The President of The Boys and Girls Club of
America gave CVST the trophy. That was when the clapping
started.
