James T Kelly
Head Coach
Jim Kelly, an Illinois native, took over CVST Head
Coaching duties in January, 1989. Prior
to this he was the CVST Head Age Group Coach from May, 1986, and in
1988 was named the Florida Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year. Jim has also
served on the Florida Swimming Board of Directors, where he is the immediate past General
Chairman (1999-2003). In the past, he has also served as the
Age Group Chairman from 1989 to 1992, and again from
1993-1995. He has also served as a
member of the United States Swimming Board of Directors, as the USA Swimming
Southern Zone Coach Director (1999-2003), and is currently
on the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations Committee and the USA Swimming National Records
Chairman. Jim was also the USA Swimming
Southern Age Group Chairman from September 1994 to September
1999. He was Assistant Coach of the
1986 Florida All-Star Team and Head Coach of the 1988 Florida
All-Star Team. Jim is also serves as
Swimming Coordinator for the Florida Sports Foundation’s
Sunshine State Games.
Prior to his affiliation with CVST he was the Assistant Head Coach
for both the Men’s and Women’s Swim Teams at the
University of Tampa. While at UT, the
programs enjoyed much success including a 3rd place finish for the
Men’s Team in 1985 and a 2nd place finish for the
Women’s team in 1986 at the NCAA Division II Swimming &
Diving Championships. As Head Coach,
Jim oversees all aspects of the Carrollwood
Program.
