CVST Golf Tournament & Reunion Dinner Postponed

CVST's 2nd Golf Tournament and Reunion Dinner is being postponed.  Due to the low number of registrations received by last Friday's deadline, the only thing we could do is cancel the events.  Unfortunately the Team had to give Emerald Greens a guaranteed number for both the Golf and Dinner by Saturday and the numbers received were not up to the minimum required.  All those sending in their checks will be contacted and registrations will be returned.  We will try again in the future, but may separate the two events.  Look for another try at the Golf Tournament possibly this fall and as for the Reunion, we will try to hold it some time in the future on a weekend versus a Monday evening.

Anyone still interested in still coming by the Emerald Greens Pool from 3:00-6:00pm on Saturday, May 10th, for a Family Swim and Social, is still invited.  The Oasis Grill will be open for refreshments and everyone can enjoy the Pool and the Splash Pad.  (Please be aware that the Oasis Grill does not accept cash, only Emerald Greens Club Charge and Credit Cards.)

If you plan to stop by on Saturday, and are not a member of Emerald Green, please send me an e-mail to CVSwimTeam@aol.com and let me know who will be attending so I can leave your names at the Recreation Center Desk.

CVST Alumni Reunion & Golf Tournament

Dear Fellow Alumni, Parents and Friends of CVST,

It is amazing to think two years have gone by since our last CVST Golf Classic, Dinner and Reunion.  Due to the success and popularity we are scheduled to host the 2nd CVST Reunion during the weekend of May 10, 2008.  Over 60 golfers teamed up at the last reunion that contributed to $3,500 raised for the swim team.

To celebrate the completion of the gorgeous new pool, the reunion weekend will kickoff with a family pool party on Saturday, May 10th (time still to be determined).  Families are invited to tour the facility and enjoy the refreshing pool while connecting with old and new swimmers.  Food and drinks will be available for purchase, no coolers please.

The weekend continues with the Golf Classic on Monday, May 12, 2008.  Shotgun will be at 12:30 p.m. and the cost is $150 per golfer.  The cost includes 18 hole round of golf, lunch, drinks, gift bag and ticket for dinner.  Following the golf tournament, the Reunion Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. in the main clubhouse.  For non-golfers, dinner will be $40 per person and includes a full buffet.  Prior to the dinner there will be a silent auction to raise funds for the swim team.  Please note the weekend is not limited to former swimmers and we are welcoming all including parents, coaches and officials.

The team has shaped each and every one of our lives throughout the years; more importantly, the lasting friendships.  We hope you will join us for this special event and appreciate you taking the time to give something back to the team.

We look forward to seeing everyone during the Reunion Weekend activities and please remember the registration deadline for golf and the dinner is Friday, May 2, 2008.  More will be coming out on the Saturday Pool Party in the near future.

Sincerely,

Michelle Gorecki

KRUSOE, Cammie Lyn, 26, was taken from the world September 12, 2007. She is survived by her parents, Bob and Noel, and two siblings, Robbie (wife, Alissa) and Kallie; unrelated sister, Shannon Harrington; godmother, Mary Harris; as well as close relatives and a multitude of friends who will forever be touched by her vivacious presence in their lives. Her spirit burned brightly from the moment she entered this world. She was born June 23, 1981, and as soon as she could walk, she was turning somersaults up and down the hallways of her home. At the age of 5, she took her first trip to the gym; by 10, she had won the first of two National YMCA national championships.  She spent the rest of her days with the same exuberant drive, a competitive and fun-loving person who described friends and family as "the most important part of my life." Cammie was born and raised in Tampa and was a self-professed "Florida Girl" who enjoyed the beach and surfing (although the waves were never quite big enough). She attended Essrig Elementary School, Ben Hill Junior High School and Gaither High School, where she was a state qualifier during her first diving season and a cheerleader known for her tumbling ability.  Cammie attended the University of South Florida on a Bright Futures scholarship and graduated with honors. She was employed in sales in the wine and spirits industry and looked forward to a future career in advertising. A bright, energetic woman who had an uncanny ability to brighten every room, she possessed a magnetism that drew people to her side. Friends of her two siblings naturally became friends with little sister Cammie as well; her boundless energy and headstrong tenacity made her, in the words of a relative, beautiful, intrepid, reverent, and witty - a joy to spend time with. She leapt into each day on her own terms with a spirit that was simply contagious. Those lucky enough to serve as a witness to her life remember her as headstrong and gently honest. She was happiest around other people; the day she passed, 275 numbers were stored in her cell phone. When Cammie did decide to sit still, she enjoyed eating gourmet food and just "being there" for friends. No matter the time of day, she was always available to counsel or just listen. One of her favorite times of the year was football season, when she cheered for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. She had a soft spot in her heart for all animals and even rescued one of the family' s two Labrador retrievers. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, September 20, at St. Paul' s Catholic Church, with a wake immediately to follow at Emerald Greens Country Club. To honor Cammie, in lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship has been set up in her name at USF. Donations can be made to the USF Foundation Inc. and sent to USF, Office of Development, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., CPR 107, Tampa, FL 33620. Please include the name of Cammie Krusoe in the memo line. I need you in my life; when the stars have all gone out, you' ll still be burning so bright ... -Sarah McLachlan

To all the procrasting alums out there web surfing instead of being productive,

Rich Sheridan has been keeping Saint Louis real for the past 6 years.  After a highly decorated and illustrious swimming career with the Saint Louis University Billikens (which included several Conference USA consolation heats!), I have hung up my tattered speedo in exchange for a short white wrinkled lab coat with its pockets filled with books that don't make sense and tools I'm not quite sure how to use.  Should any of you venture into the great midwest, I may be found wandering aimlessly about the greater Saint Louis Metropolitan area hospitals, trying not to kill anyone today.  Apparently, I also signed up to serve Uncle Sam in the capacity of a physician for the United States ARMY effective July 2008, which means you guys can call me Sir should you not prefer "Rich" (or the other names I acquired during my CVST tour).  Occasionally, when I am bold enough to call in sick, I have found whitewater kayaking to be a pleasant way to enjoy the water that does not involve rote cardiovascular prowess, although my residual athleticism helps for extended periods upside down as my boat and I recirculate in a large churning hole.  Believe it or not, there is a waterfall that spans the length of the Mississippi River called the Chain of Rocks.  We here in Missouri also have a mountain span called the Ozarks (peak~1800ft) which features the worlds oldest exposed granite bedrock.  The Saint Louis diet consists of Saint Louis Bread Co (you call it Panera), toasted ravioli, St. Louis Ribs, Budweiser, and frozen custard.  More Americans recognize the St. Louis skyline than the Chicago skyline.  While people in Saint Louis like to whine about the humidity, this Tampa native knows of a far stickier armpit.

Hopefully I can make a future reunion, unfortunately the pesky string of unbendable medical examinations has limited my travel in general.

Cheers,
Lt Sheridan, pre-MD

Dear CVST Alumni,

First off, thanks to all of you swimmers, parents and coaches who came to our     1st Annual CVST Golf Classic, Dinner and Alumni Reunion!  The turnout was great, especially for our first effort at this.  It was great to see everyone especially those of you who haven't been around for quite some time.  Thanks to our committee that put it all together.  I should have introduced and thanked them at the dinner, but we ran out of time.  They are:

Mike Kenny (Alum - Swimmer/Coach) Roger & Jennifer Boldizsar (Current Parents) Kathy Mayer (Current Parent)
Scott Thomas (Alum - Coach) Michelle Gorecki (Alum - Swimmer) Carol Lynch (Current Parent/President)

Thanks also to to those of you who participated in the silent auction.  I haven't seen any numbers yet, but from what I heard about some of the bidding wars going on, it should have turned out pretty well for the team.

Congratulations to all of our golfers, especially the Bobanic Clan, who came away with the top prize.  You can Click Here for a complete list of the scoring and contest winners.

Thanks to our former CVST Coaches that attended:  Rico Maschino, Scott Thomas and Ross Bohlken.  And also thanks to the "New" Emerald Greens Golf & Country Club, for hosting the event and helping the to make the evening a great success.

The planning for next year's annual event will be beginning shortly, so if anyone is interested in helping out, contact me and I will get your name to the appropriate person.  Next year I  would like to possibly expand the event to a weekend and use the new pool area as a backdrop for added family events and maybe a party.  As soon as we have dates available, we will start spreading the word, but we need your help.  So if you or anyone you know that was associated with the team (swimmers, parents, coaches) is not a member of the Alumni Association, please get them to the Alumni Association Sign-up Page on the CVST Website at www.carrollwoodswimming.org/Alumni_Reg.htm, so we can get their contact information.  Also if your information has changed, please update it on the same page.

Thanks again to everyone who took part in the event and we hope to see you all again next year (if not sooner!),

Jim Kelly

PS.  If anyone who has pictures from any of the days events would like to share them, please e-mail them to us at CVSwimTeam@aol.com.

CVST Alumni Swim Across Tampa Bay... Again!

The Ninth Annual 24 Mile Tampa Bay Marathon Swim was held on April 22nd, 2006 to celebrate Earth Day and the revitalization of Florida's largest estuary.  At 400 square miles, Tampa Bay is Florida's largest open-water estuary, a term that describes areas where fresh and saltwater meet. Just 30 years ago, Tampa Bay was so polluted many considered it beyond salvage. That it has come back to life is a testament to the resiliency of nature, and the continued dedication of hundreds of citizens, scientists and elected leaders who recognize it as a resource worth saving.

The Tampa Bay Aquatic Club completed their 7th consecutive Tampa Bay Marathon Swim and finished in a time of 9 hours, 44 minutes.  Team members: Tom Rawls, (CVST Alum), 38, of Tampa; Joe Solak (CVST Alum), 41, of Tampa, and  Clara Reynolds, 36, also of Tampa comprised the relay.

A Letter from the Golf/Dinner Reunion Committee

Dear fellow Alum,

By now you have hopefully received information on the upcoming CVST Golf Classic, Dinner and Reunion, to be held at the Emerald Greens Country Club Monday, May 15.  We are sending this letter as a friendly reminder.

The purpose of this letter is threefold.  First and foremost, this reunion will provide all of us the opportunity to get reacquainted with old friends.  The idea of an annual alumni gathering has been discussed for some time and has received great support from Jim and the current team board.  Our intention is to make the most of this inaugural event, and continue with various activities for the years to come.  Second, the team needs our support at this time.  As most of you are aware, the pool has been shut down for complete renovation for a considerable time.  This has had a negative impact on numbers, but has not dampened the team’s spirits.  Now is the perfect time for us to lend a hand.  Lastly, we need you to reach out to fellow alumni to spread the word.  We currently have about 100 names in the database, but are missing many more.  Please seek out your old CVST associations, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to share in the fun and contribute.  PLEASE NOTE THE ASSOCIATION IS NOT LIMITED TO FORMER SWIMMERS, WE ARE WELCOMING ALL INCLUDING PARENTS, COACHES AND OFFICIALS.

There will be a dinner and reunion held following the golf outing, at 6:30 pm.  If you are not a golfer, please make it a point to stop by and join us for dinner.

The team has contributed much to each and every one of our lives through the years.  Most important of are the lasting friendships.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to give something back to the club.

We look forward to seeing everyone on May 15 and please remember that the registration deadline for golf and the dinner is Friday, May 5th.

Best regards,

Mike Kenny, Scott Thomas, Michelle Gorecki

PS.  Additional Registration Forms and more information is available on the CVST Alumni Web Page at: www.carrollwoodswimming.org/Alumni.htm.

Hey everyone, How is everyone doing? I hope all is well! I am sorry I haven't kept in better contact, I really suck at this! Anyways, well I have some good news, no no I am not engaged! I am expecting in October. Monday, I got to hear the heartbeat and that was really cool. Our families are excited, especially Ryan's since, they have been through so much sadness in the last five years! Yes, even my mom is excited, at first she was not so happy but now she is getting used to the idea that I am having a kid, so she is getting more and more excited everyday!

Also, I am really excited about coming home in May for the CVST reunion. It will be so much fun seeing everyone again.  Well I will talk to everyone later!

I retired from teaching in 2000 and had to quit coaching swimming in 2004 because of skin cancer.  I now teach part time and teach painting as well as paint landscapes and seascapes.  I have a web site showing my art work at www.enricomaschino.com.  Check it out.  I have 12  grandchildren and still keep in touch with some of my former swimmers.

I have many wonderful memories from my years of coaching at CVST.  The team had been in existence for 2 to 3 years as I remember when I took over in the early 70's.  We were in the old pool the first year I coached and used an old wall clock for a pace clock.  We only had a few kickboards so I made some from styrofoam.  We went to meets almost every weekend during the summers and celebrated our victories at Pizza Hut which we got kicked out of after we became a little too rowdy.  We all used to stay at the same overnight locations and would cook out and drink after the days program.

We had a dynamite 8&under and 9&10 year old age group which Scott inherited.  I've got some team and candid pictures which I will send to get posted on the web.  I've got lots of stories to share and will do so at our reunion.  Am looking forward to seeing my old friends again.

I have received word about the upcoming reunion in May, and must say that I will not be attending.  It turns out that yet another CVST  alum will be departing for the Sandbox.  I have received orders to be the Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard Cutter ADAK out of Bahrain (this is a good thing, heck I actually asked to go).  I'm currently in training, and will be departing in a few weeks.  As soon as I find out what my e-mail address is over there, I will give an update.

If you know of any former CVST swimmers or their parents that are not members the CVST Alumni Association, please pass the word on so that they can sign up for the Alumni Association on-line at the CVST Website’s Alumni Page at www.carrollwoodswimming.org/Alumni.htm.
